A typical class goes like this:
warm ups
techniques - instructor teaches a few techniques and students get to practice with a partner
sparring / rolls - students partner up and spar (roll) with one another for 5 min rounds until end of class.

The gi is traditional uniform worn in BJJ. You’re allowed to grab and use the gi to control your opponents.
In contrast, no-gi means no uniform is worn and you’re allowed to wear t-shirt and shorts or skin-tight clothing like rash guards and spats/skins. In no-gi you’re not allowed to grab clothing with sparring.

In our kids/teens classes, we combine fun and learning. We start with games to build skills and teamwork, then move to teaching basic BJJ techniques with fun names like "Taking Down the Giant" for double tackle, "Sleeping Crocodile" for side control, and "Spider Kid" for mounting.
Our safe, friendly environment allows children to learn at their own pace and develop a love for the sport. We aim to create a space where they can enjoy learning, improve their skills, build self-confidence, and learn respect for others.

Short answer: no!
BJJ is rather unique among martial arts and other combat sports in that it can be practiced in a low impact, slow paced manner and yet retain a very high level of intensity.
As a result, it can be done well into old age. Our members range from teenagers to middle aged family men and women.

Submission grappling is rapidly growing in popularity and is also essential if you wish to make the transition to MMA.
Because of the faster pace and slipperiness factor of Submission Grappling, we advise beginners to train in the gi for a few months to get a good grasp of the basic fundamentals before trying out Nogi.

For your trial class, a gi will be provided for you. However when you sign up for a membership you’ll have to bring your own gi.
You may choose to buy one of our club gis or buy your own elsewhere.
